My first Pointing Dog is a Braque du Bourbonnais female Volage du Pontelle de Maicou, "Volage". She introduced me to the world of bird hunting and has made me truly excited about it. I have learned how challenging it is to train a pointing dog. Luckily, I was fortunate to get a dog with great hunting instincts and an excellent temperament.

A Shorthaired German Pointing Dog Aittonevan Fransemil, "Ransu" was already part of my fiance's life when we met and now Ransu belongs to my life, too. He is a sweet boy with an intense desire to hunt.

Volage is a gun dog with an ideal temperament. She has been a well-behaving and an easy-going house dog since a puppy. She is smart and has a great personality. Volage greets both friends and strangers cheerfully and with great enthusiasm.

When it is time to go out for hunting, Volage turns into an intense bird dog. Her search is wide and fast and her pointing is not only stylish but also very exact. In Finland the gun dogs must make the bird take wing after pointing. This happens of course with a command and is called "flushing", which means it is the faster type accepted in FCI rules. Volage's flush is very intense, as it should be. In Finland a bird dog should stay totally motionless when the bird takes wing and quite a while after this, too. We have let Volage retrieve before the command a few times, so now we are correcting our own mistakes. Luckily, with good advice from experienced trainers, we have learned how to fix this problem and Volage is learning to stay still when shooting. Volage retrieves well.
